Who gets to speak and who is listened to? The theme “speaker” inspired us to bring authorship and power to the fore through visual means. In poetry, the speaker decides from whose perspective the poem is told, but the poet and the editor guide the reader's interpretation. In this issue, we explore the different layers of power in poetry publishing and how to bring different voices to the fore through the means of art. We visualize the authors' own voices on the title pages using audio-reactive video editing. The handwritten footnotes of the essays also set voice for the text. By offering the poems as unformatted raw text on the edges of the page, we give the reader the power to interpret them in their own way.
